A TRIBUTE TO THE LIVING LEGENDS OF JAZZ AND BLUES

The Triad Youth Jazz and Blues Society is a non-profit organization with a *501(c) 3 status. Our program, consisting of youth between the ages of 8 to 18, is designed to preserve the history of jazz music in our community. The Triad Youth Jazz & Blues Society was founded in 2006 by a group of local businessmen who had the desire to see our youth participate in positive activities to enhance their growth and development.

We want to thank all who made the Triad Youth Jazz Society's Annual Fundraiser, " A Tribute to the Living Legends of Jazz and Blues" a success!

This would not have been possible with out Stan Montgomery, Cynthia Campbell, the behind the scenes staff and of course the dynamic ladies of song-- Eva Foster, Melva Houston, Diana Tuffin, Sandra Jones, and Autumn Rainey.

This event gave us music, laughter and the experience of the passing of the torch from one generation to the next.

JAZZ LEGENDS HISTORY

Melva Houston is a jazz and blues vocalist who's experience includes more than 20 years of live performances across the US and internationally.  A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Melva began her career with gospel performances.  At the age of 16, she moved into R&B as a backup singer for Stax Records where she recorded R&B greats such as Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, Wilson Pickett and Sam and Dave.  Melva made her first tour of Europe with the Platters and starred in a Motown Revue.   Once Melva discovered jazz and blues, she found her musical passion and has been performing these styles for most of her career.  Her performances include jazz standards and blues featuring songs from the jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and Nina Simone. Today, Melva tours the US, Spain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and the Caribbean on her mission to keep jazz alive.
